Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get started?

After you get in touch by submitting an inquiry, you will be contacted to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. You’ll be asked what is bringing you into therapy now, and you will have a chance to ask questions about Dr. Meldon’s practice, her approach and her qualifications. If it is agreed that you might be a good fit to work together, you and Dr. Meldon will schedule an intake session and you’ll have some paperwork to complete prior to your first meeting. During your intake session and over the next 1-2 sessions, Dr. Meldon will gather a full history to better understand in detail what is bringing you into treatment. After the initial 2-3 sessions, Dr. Meldon will discuss with you a treatment plan to best address your concerns. In some cases, other referrals will be provided if a different treatment approach is recommended to better meet your needs.

What can I expect in therapy?

It depends! After a few initial sessions, Dr. Meldon will talk with you about her recommended treatment plan. Dr. Meldon is experienced in tailoring treatment to meet your needs and using evidence-based interventions that are shown to be most effective in treating your concerns. Regardless of the specific problem you’re coming to therapy for or the specific treatment being offered, Dr. Meldon wants your therapy sessions to be a place where you are taken seriously, treated with compassion, and do not feel judged. Dr. Meldon takes a collaborative approach to treatment and will likely start off the session asking you for topics for the session’s agenda and tying these to your overall treatment goals. You may be asked to complete homework or do exercises together in session, and Dr. Meldon may periodically ask you to complete measures assessing changes in symptoms in order to track your progress.
